The Underlooked Effort of SALT in Homecoming

When I say I'm in SALT the first question people ask is, “What is that? What is SALT?” Short for the Student Athlete Leadership Team, is a group formed a few years ago consisting of both Varsity and Junior Varsity captains., Although often overlooked, SALT was created to give student athletes a voice in athletics and in the events that surround them. Thanks to this group, ASF enjoys traditions such as Homecoming, Game of the Month, and even the creative videos presented at the Varsity End-of-Year Gala.
In this article I would like to focus on Homecoming 2025 and all the different expectations, aspects and effort SALT puts in order to ensure the success of events such as Homecoming.
Students typically love homecoming because of the special schedule, whether that means being excited to watch friends play, having fun at the pep rally, or even just getting snacks. For starters, SALT comes up with the plan and schedule for homecoming day. As a group of leaders at ASF, we consider activities that are enjoyable not just for our teams or the student body but for the whole community as a whole. We focus on creating a fun and enthusiastic environment in order to set the tone and make homecoming an enjoyable experience for all parties involved. Captains lead the ECC, LS, and MS/US pep rallies to bring the hype, introduce our varsity teams, and overall honor all student athletes at ASF. SALT prepares these pep rallies by choosing appropriate music, making creative, engaging, and entertaining routines, and overall being enthusiastic about coming out of the tunnel and just enjoying a day that’s made for athletes.
Promoting homecoming prior to the actual date is also extremely important to SALT in the sense that through promotion we are able to get students involved in homecoming activities and the games that go on throughout the entire day. I’m sure those who were at ASF last year remember how on homecoming day, all the teams uploaded a video on the ASF athletics instagram page whether it was promoting their own game or promoting their food sales and different activities. SALT is in charge of creating these videos and making sure that they are published in time in order for the ASF community to be informed when all the games are taking place and what time each sport is playing at.
The last thing I want to mention that SALT does is food sales. Each team is in charge of selling drinks, pizza, savory foods and sweet foods. Each team does this in order to raise money for their team. This money goes towards helping student athletes go to tournaments such as ASOMEX and any overall needs that the team needs. SALT ensures that the ASF community has the opportunity to buy food, drinks and overall have an amazing time at homecoming. Therefore, with this article I would like to highlight that homecoming is such a stressful event to plan and SALT works extremely hard in order for this event to happen and to succeed as well as it has.
