At ASF, we celebrated our Spirit Week last week in preparation for Homecoming. Throughout the week, the student leadership group organized and promoted various events. We wanted to know how people felt about this year’s activities, so we asked students, teachers, and student council members to share their opinions on Spirit Week—even though it’s pretty similar every year.

Q1: What do you believe was good and bad about the activities held at the blacktop, and which one was your favorite?
Student: I loved the powder one, because I feel like everybody got a chance to have fun without the pressure of being on stage with a mic, needing to talk in front of many people. Also, on that day, the dress code was very easy to follow, and I noticed that the majority of people participated, which showed strong school spirit. Apart from that, it was very fun to see the before and after of people's outfits.

Q2: As a Stuco member, what was frustrating in the process of planning and promoting the event? What would you do differently next time?
StuCo member: I believe it was hard to attract people and get students involved in the activities we planned. We thoroughly prepared for the events and made sure it was successful; however, people weren't as interested in the events held at the black top as we had imagined. Furthermore, in my opinion, it would be nice to change up the dress code next year. For example, I noticed that as sophomores, it was hard to dress up as middle-aged parents in “dress as your generation day”; therefore, I hope next year we change the dress code to something simpler so that people actually follow it.
Q3: If you were to plan the activities for spirit week, what would you do differently?
If I were to plan the activities for spirit week, I would change some of the activities. For example, we can set up a movie theater on the black top and put popcorn to go with the movie. Another idea is that we can set up a photobooth with pillows and stuffed animals, so that people can take cute pictures with their friend group.
