Soyul Bae

ASF, Sept.11-14, The Upper School Student Council ignited the best school spirit with the most enthusiastic games during the Grito Week. Events such as the Sack Race, Churros Eating Competition, Tug of War, and the Spicy Salsa Competition were hosted during lunch time at the blacktop. Laughter, support, cheers, and joy were all visible throughout the week, showing many participations.

READY, SET, GO! On the 11th of September the first event happened: the Sack Race.

It was an event where students race each other while standing in sacks up to the waist and jump forward. The goal was to reach the white finish line first. Everybody ran for the line, jumping, running, crawling.

13th of September happened the TUG. OF. WAR.

All types of war happened: seniors against the freshmen, boys against girls, and seniors against seniors. Pulling, dragging, falling, and sweating. Everybody was working their best to pull the rope to their sides. Kindly, but not so friendly competition was going on and after the result of the winner, cheers were all around the blacktop. It was a high spirited event that motivated many unified teams.

“I’M GONNA DIE. RIGHT NOW” said Zara Ontiveros (participant, class of 2025).

The last event of the week was the Spill the Sauce (a.k.a Spicy Salsa Competition). The rule of the event was simple. Eat the chip with the salsa and answer the questions to get yourself milk. Students and teachers were nominated up on stage to try some of the spiciest salsas without knowing the hot questions ahead of them. “Who's the last person you searched for on Instagram?” “Tell us your best pick up line” “Who is your favorite STUCO member and why?” “Would you go back to your ex?”. Many spicy and fevered questions were asked to the nominees. Those who answered, left the stage calmly. Those who couldn’t, fired up their tongue asking for a new one. This event became everyone’s favorite event. “At first I thought it wasn’t going to be that spicy but when I tasted it, it was completely the opposite. It was just CRAZY.” replied Patricio Cruz (participant, class of 2026). The event showed unexpectedness and astonishment to the participants presenting them a boiled experience.

The upper school STUCO organized some of the best events this week celebrating the independence day of Mexico. Every generation participated and showed spirit; a heart-warming and a pleasant way to connect as a member of the ASF community. Hoping the spirit doesn’t die,

¡VIVA MEXICO y VIVA ASF!
