Irresistible Almond Tart to Sweeten Your Thanksgiving Feast!

Maria Duarte

Thanksgiving is the season of homemade desserts. It is the perfect opportunity to impress your friends and family with the baking skills that you developed over time. Nevertheless, generic Thanksgiving desserts often get boring and repetitive. Although pumpkin pie and sweet potato casserole are delicious, it’s time to up your game and bring something new to the table…

Ever thought about making an almond tart? Well, neither did I, but it was the best decision I've ever made. The tart is filled with a delicious sweet almond cream and it has a crunchy and decadent crust. It is a show-stopping dessert that will position you as the best baker in your family gathering.

Without further do, here is my recipe for an amazing almond tart.

Tips

Before starting, I want to clarify that even though the recipe includes a homemade crust, you can totally use a store-bought one to make your life easier; the tart will still taste delicious.

However, if you are making your own homemade tart crust, I recommend that you start a day before because it needs to chill for a long time in the fridge.

Additionally, if you are not into overly sweet desserts, you can definitely use less sugar in the tart filling.

Since the almond filling does not take a long time to make, you can start preparing it whilst your crust is in the oven.

Crust

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of flour

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 cup very cold unsalted butter cut into cubes

  • 4 to 6 tablespoons ice water

  • Pinch of salt

Preparation:

Combine 1½ cups of flour, sugar and salt.

Add half of your butter, and mix until a crumbly dough is formed. Then, add your remaining butter and flour and mix until your dough holds a bit more shape (don't overmix your dough, you should see small chunks of cold butter).

Drizzle water into your mixture one tablespoon at a time. Stop when you feel like your dough holds its shape when squeezed, but does not feel sticky or soft.

Transfer your dough to your counter, form it into a ball, and wrap it with plastic wrap. Then, store it in the fridge for at least 2 hours; the more time you leave it in the fridge the better.

When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350 °F. After that, take your dough out of the fridge and roll it out. Before placing the dough in your tart pan, be sure to smother it with butter to stop your crust from sticking when it comes out of the oven.

Finally, poke some holes in your dough, and bake it for 15 minutes at 350 °F.

Almond filling

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick of room-temperature butter

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon of almond extract

  • Pinch of salt

  • Powdered sugar to decorate.

Preparation:

Beat together butter, sugar, eggs, and almond extract in a big bowl.

Stir in almond flour until a homogeneous mixture is formed.

Add filling to the crust and bake for 30 minutes at 375°F.

After your tart is done baking, let it cool down for at least one hour. Then, use a sift to decorate it with powdered sugar.

I hope you impress your loved ones with this amazing almond tart recipe.

Happy Thanksgiving!
