A continuation of the 2003 hilarious movie Freaky Friday, in which a mother and daughter switch bodies and spend a day in each other’s lives due to magic fortune cookies, the film was a success, grossing over $160 million worldwide on a production budget of just $26 million. Much of its success was from Curtis’s acting, earning her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture— Musical or Comedy.
The new film hit theaters on August 8th, released by Walt Disney Studios, though it premiered earlier at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on July 22nd. The sequel starred the widely beloved duo of Lindsey Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, who played the same characters. Not only did both of them return, but also Murray and Harmon. The film has received very positive reviews and has made about $148.7 million worldwide, despite its recent release. The story dates back to the 1971 novel written by Mary Rodgers, also titled Freaky Friday, which has been adapted several times before by the Walt Disney Company: in 1976, 1995, 2003, 2018, and finally, the latest continuation.

However, in the sequel, the story is not only of two, but of four women swapping bodies. Anna Coleman (Linsey Lohan), who was a teenager in the first movie, now has a rebellious teenage daughter. Apart from that, Anna falls in love with a man who also has a teenage daughter, who dislikes her soon-to-be family. The girls have opposite personalities, and neither wants their parents to get married. After a mysterious woman appears, they find themselves inside a different body, with only a vague warning. They will try everything they possibly can to stop the wedding, but eventually end up finding out a lot more about themselves in the process.

The story navigates the ups and downs of relationships, the importance of empathy, and the understanding of the lives of your closest ones. It’s a very good movie, great to watch with friends and family, as it brings on lots of laughs. The plot is very well-planned, with lots of unexpected twists and turns along the way. It has an important message behind it: the importance of understanding different perspectives and the power of love and family, a force that brings people together and doesn’t divide them. By facing their fears, they find out how much they really love each other, and ultimately connect with their new family members and find a sense of belonging.
The movie is currently in theaters, and it is expected to come out on Disney+ around November or December; however, the date hasn’t been confirmed. It’s a movie that lots of people have enjoyed a lot. Therefore, if you are curious or simply feel like going to the movie theater, it's highly recommended. It's also rated PG; therefore, it's a great option for anyone, regardless of age.
