The Mexican grand prix has never been the most exciting race. While in its 71 laps the drivers reach great speeds, there is never as much action as in other Grand Prix’s. But this weekend was the exception.

Everyone was looking forward to the hometown favorite Checo Perez results this weekend, because last year he had a tragic race where he crashed on the first corner of the first lap.

In the practices Ferrari and Mclaren showed great speed. Carlos Sainz stayed close to the top throughout all the practices and showed a lot of strength and confidence in his car. Mclaren drivers also stayed close to the top highlighting Mclaren’s increased greatness.

During qualifying Carlos Sainz kept dominating, finishing with pole position and keeping Max Verstappen and Lando Norris in second and third place. The Mexican favorite, Checo Perez, qualified in a disappointing 18th position for the race start on Sunday.

Sunday was full of emotions. The energy in the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez was unmatchable with everyone excited and ready to see the race as Carlos Sainz has a great fan base in Mexico and he would be starting in pole position. In the first lap of the Grand Prix Carlos Sainz lost the first position to Max Verstappen but on turn 1 of lap 9 Sainz regained the position he had lost and after that peacefully led the race to the end.

The interesting aspect and what kept everyone on their heels was caused by Verstappen and Norris fighting for second place in the race. Verstappen first forced Norris off the track and after drove fully off the track to reclaim the position. Max was given a 10 second penalty because of his lack of clean driving which he served during his pit stop and dropped down many positions. After the penalty Verstappen was able to get back up to sixth place. Norris finished second after passing Charles Leclerc almost at the end of the race.

Checo Perez ended up in 17th out of 17 drivers who finished the race creating more speculations about his future in Red Bull and how much longer he will be keeping his seat. Carlos Sainz showed complete domination throughout the weekend and achieved a win he really wanted before leaving Ferrari at the end of this season. Norris narrowed the championship gap to 47 points and Ferrari narrowed the constructors championship gap with their first and third place in the grand prix and Charles Leclerc's point for fastest lap.

What was expected to be a not as exciting race ended up creating many changes in both the drivers and constructors championship and surely was an exciting watch.
