The LVIII Super Bowl!

CBS News

On Sunday February 21st, the 58th Superbowl was hosted in Las Vegas, leaving the Chiefs with their second consecutive win.

The game was between the San Francisco 49ers, being led by Brock Purdy and the Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes.

While the 49ers had had an outstanding season, their quarterback was a distinct underdog, commonly being called “Mr. Irrelevant”, having been drafted two years prior from Iowa State. The San Francisco team is also made up of other extraordinary players, such as Christian McCaffrey, who scored the first touchdown in this Superbowl.

Taylor Swift’s attendance at the Super Bowl was one of the biggest draws for non-football fans, with many viewers uninterested in the plays of the game will be interested in the romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. This granted the Chiefs with the loyal support of the Swities and has even shown a spike in viewers in all the games Taylor Swift attended. Not only did viewership spike, but Kelce’s jersey sales increased by 400%. The outstanding support helped the Chiefs change their stance in the playoffs leading them to the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl also showed an increase in economic activity, with ads starting at $7 million dollars for only a couple seconds. These are so expensive because of the levels of viewership the game reaches, uniting the United States and other American Football fans.

However, this is not the only impacting information on the SuperBowl. This year, the Israeli government bombed a region in Gaza known as Rafah. This resulted in the killing of 100 people, in a region that was designated as a refugee camp Palestinian people in search of a safe space. Analysts believe this was a measured attack since they knew most Americans would be watching the Super Bowl, keeping attention away from what was happening in Israel.

It is clear, the super bowl, as well as American football itself holds a lot of power, both economically and socially, not only in the United States but around the world.
