A Series of Unfortunate Events: Football Update

Patrick Thomas

A dreadful start to the first half of the season as misfortune struck the bears through devastating injuries! Starting quarterback David Flores (senior), the league’s passing leader through week 3 of the season, is ruled out for the season after a catastrophic blow to his left clavicle, leaving it fractured. Emiliano Flores (sophomore) now has to step up to fill the quarterback role and lead the offense.

The Bears are 0-4 and still seek to find their first win of the season. After being promoted to a new division in the FADEMAC league through a series of undefeated seasons, the football Bears find themselves struggling to compete. Two heartbreaking defeats through the first 2 games of the season, the outcomes determined in the last plays of the fourth quarter against Gamos (54 - 40) and Colegio Subire GDJ (49 - 40), and a shameful loss against Redskins A (70 - 24) and UVM Toluca Linces (23 - 3).

The Bears had high standards coming into the season yet were humbled by the physicality of the new league: will they switch their mentality and finish the rest of the season on a stronger note?
